Finding a reliable designer who specializes in SaaS is not only difficult but also risky. A full-time senior designer can easily exceed $140,000 per year, plus benefits. That’s quite an investment.

Hey there! I’m Brendan, the founder of SaaS Designer. I’m not an agency, but a one-person design studio. When you work with SaaS Designer, you’re working directly with me, on a personal 1-to-1 basis. 😊

On a relevant note, try to stay away from agencies if you can. At the end of the day, most agencies are trying to scale. That usually means they’ll pair you with a lower-cost, less-experienced designer – while still charging you a premium to cover their own overhead. A lot of the time, your project ends up being outsourced without much transparency. So yeah, something to watch out for when dealing with these kinds of “design agencies.”

Be extremely wary of subscription agencies.

Firstly, they tend to limit you to one “active” task at a time, stretching tasks out to keep you subscribed as long as possible.

Another issue is their definition of ‘tasks.’ From my own experience working with some of these agencies, I’ve noticed that they often bottleneck progress for what should be minor changes.

For example, when you ask them for simple adjustments – such as changing the size of a font or the color of a button – these agencies treat them as separate “tasks” and will take up to three days to complete. They lack the incentive to speed things up, dragging out the timeline unnecessarily in order to keep you subscribed longer.

Finally, a lot of these agencies pass your projects to lower-cost designers or interns, often with communication barriers.
